Sutton in Ashfield Concert Review

Blidworth Welfare Band returned to Sutton in Ashfield on Saturday 21st April for their annual concert with the Sutton in Ashfield Choral Society.

The band opened the concert with the 15th Century folk tune, Agincourt Song before moving straight in to Juan Tizol's jazz standard, Caravan.


Following a choral piece, the band performed the miner's hymn, Gresford and then closed the first half of the concert (after another set by the choir), with Bill Geldard's trombone solo arrangement of 'Feelings', expertly performed by Principal Trombonist, Pete Thornburn and McArthur Park.


The second half of the concert was opened by the choral society before Blidworth Welfare Band returned with a movie section comprising of the theme from Batman the Movie and the band's second soloist of the evening, Sara Baldwin on flugel performing Aranjuez Mon Amour from the 1989 film, Brassed Off.


Concluding the concert after the final choral set, the band performed Steven Ponsford's work, Turris Fortissima.
